Pupil Leadership

Each child in the school belongs to one of the 4 school houses.

Children collect counters for each house point they receive. These are counted weekly and scores are recorded and celebrated as part of our weekly praise assembly, which takes place on a Friday.

All children can earn house points at any time as part of verbal and written praise. These can be given for a number of reasons including for example; fantastic effort, positive behaviour both in the classroom and outside on the playground, following the school rules, demonstrating the school values, good work as well as through positive learning behaviours such as learning from a mistake, co-operating effectively in group work activities or sharing an excellent answer or idea.

House Captains

Each house has two elected House Captains. House Captains are Y6 pupils that are elected to the role by their peers.

House Captains are expected to be role models for the rest of the school. These children aspire to be honest, hardworking and conscientious - ensuring that the rest of the school look up to them. They uphold and exemplify the school values and set a good example for behaviour and conduct both in and out of school.

School Council

At the start of each academic year, children put themselves forward to be part of the School Council. Their class vote for one child to be their school council representative. The school council meets half-termly and has a number of responsibilities and goals throughout the year.

What are the School Council working on this year?

The School Council entered a competition to name some of the new West Berkshire Food Trucks. We had 3 winning entries and 3 food trucks have been named as follows

  • Sir Andy Curry
  • Food Feaster 2.0
  • The Garbage Gobbler

Other school council duties include selling poppies during Remembrance, decorating the Christmas tree in the hall, working with the headteacher and Governors as representatives of pupil voice.

Eco Council

This year, the Eco Council is continuing to work on becoming more environmentally friendly. We are currently working on reducing our carbon footprint by increasing our recycling contributions. We are aiming to recycle as much lunchbox and snack packaging as we can.

Sports Crew

At The Willows, we have our very own Sports Crew.

Who are the Sports Crew?

  • Children who like PE and are interested in all types of sport
  • Children who participate well in PE lessons – they always have the correct kit; they uphold the school values and demonstrate good behaviour at all times.

  • Children who want to promote sport in school and help other children achieve well in PE
  • Children who are willing and able to attend after school clubs and work with the Sports Leader to help other children at the club
